The Historical Rolex Air-King
While a Rolex Air-King is known for being useful to pilots and becoming certified by COSC (Swiss Official Chronometer Testing Institute), there is a deeper story behind the use of the watch.
Supposedly, the Air-King has a historical importance in that it helped British aviators in World War II. The Rolex Air-King seemed to be the preferred model for battle of Britain fighter pilots and Hans Wilsdorf, the founder of Rolex. Since Wilsdorf felt moved by British pilots, he decided to honor them with a new line of manual wind Oyster collection watches. At one point, Rolex would nickname their watches “Air Lion”, “Air Tiger”, “Air Giant” and “Air King”. The Air line of watches continued production until the early 1960’s. Ultimately, the Air-King was the last remaining model of that specific collection and was eventually fitted with an automatic movement. Through the years, it appears to be that Rolex has remained consistent with the classic look and feel of an Air-King.
A Rolex Air-King replica watch performs and possesses the same pleasing aesthetics as the originals. Since the authentic watches do a simple job of displaying the time, buyers don’t have to worry about minor or major intricacies when they are trying to operate the watch. A Rolex Air-King replica watch is very easy to use and always serves a beneficial purpose.
Rolex Air-King replicas are available in steel and less expensive white gold. Any jewels seen are imitations. The numbers come in Arabic, Roman and jeweled. The faces come in white, black, blue, champagne and silver colors. The size is 34 millimeters with a domed bezel, self-winding components, and strong stainless-steel bracelets. The Air-King is waterproof to 330 feet (100 meters).
The price of an authentic Rolex is between $2,000 and $3,000. Replicas cost between $200 and $300.
